Neckties were originally considered as simple handkerchiefs. As centuries passed, this piece of clothing soon turned into a distinct representation of masculine sophistication and elegance. It has gained a remarkable position in men’s wardrobes from a simple handkerchief.

Neckties are also worn by women but a necktie is more commonly regarded as indispensable accessories for men. A necktie speaks of a strong and dignified character. This makes the necktie very important in men’s wardrobes.

A necktie is made of a long piece of cloth worn around the neck or shoulders. It is placed under the shirt collar and is knotted at the throat. Most men wear it to the office or during formal occasions. Restaurants and schools have neckties in their uniforms.

A necktie has different variants. This include the clip-on tie, the bow tie, and the ascot tie. Neckties can be tied in four different ways: the Four-in-Hand Knot, the Pratt Knot, the Windsor Knot, and the Half-Windsor Knot.

      TIPS ON TYING A KNOT:

      1. Make sure that you have enough time to get your tying right; especially if you’re tying for the first time. Enough time to adjust or re-tie the knot higher or lower is necessary to get the ideal length. Attention to detail is important in good grooming. This kind of attention never gets unappreciated or unnoticed.

      2. Shove a loop through with your finger and pull the rest through when sliding the broad end through the knot. This should help keep the knot together.

      3. Find the spot where the narrow end becomes wider. This is typically the best place to pass the broad end over the narrow end. Tie the knot with this widening section, lying on top of the narrow end’s knot spot.

      4. Make sure that the knot fits just right on top of the collar button. A tightly tied knot creeps up the collar and a loosely tied one looks sloppy.

      5. Many bad knots can be transformed by a little knot cleaning. This involves loosening the knot, removing any wrinkles in the fabric, squeezing the knot into shape, and re-tightening it if necessary.

      6. Never pull out the narrow end when untying a tie-all you have to do is to follow the tying directions in reverse order.

      7. Ties should be treated well to make sure that they last long. Always smooth them when they’re taken off and then hang them up so that they can return to their natural shape.
