Something stinks in here! And after opening a window and lighting a candle, the odor still won’t budge. More than 78 percent of Americans agree that household odors like food, pet messes, mildew and kids rooms can be hard to eliminate. To combat the problem without disrupting a normal cleaning routine, baking soda based vacuum bags and filters offer a more natural solution to removing unwanted smells.

Most vacuum accessory lines now consist of hundreds of styles made to fit nearly all brands and models of vacuum cleaners. Baking soda based vacuum bags and filters eliminate odors caused by the mold, bacteria and fungi that can be produced by stinky foods, musty closets, diaper pails, garbage cans, carpets, upholstery and even pets. The resulting air, free of odors, is released back into the home.

In addition to the natural removal of odors with baking soda, there are also several other handy tools around the house that can help combat pesky smells.

      • Vacuum Bag Odor Removing Packets – There are a variety of brands that offer odor control that freshen the room’s carpet just by adding one small packet to the vacuum’s bag or dust cup. The crystals inside each packet eliminate odors, leaving a fresh, clean scent.

      • Vanilla for burnt food – If the odor is from the microwave (i.e. popcorn gone awry),
place a bowl of water with a tablespoon of vanilla in the microwave and boil the water.
Let it sit in the space for one hour. Or, if the room is affected, boil the vanilla mix on the
      stove.

      • A dishwasher and microwave for sponges – To clean smelly sponges, put them in with a normal cycle of dishes with a dryer cycle. After they are done, ring out each sponge and place in the microwave for 30 seconds on high to kill lurking bacteria.

      • Cat litter for basements – Place cat litter in an open box to attract smells of must from this normally cold and dark space. Cat litter works like charcoal and absorbs odors without masking them.

      • Charcoal for bathrooms – Like baking soda, charcoal also has odor-eliminating
capabilities. Instead of masking the odor, use charcoal to absorb excess moisture and
smells. Place charcoal into plastic containers and poke holes on the top. Hide the
containers in spots where guests won’t see them (like behind the toilet).

All of these household products are useful to quickly get rid of unwanted odors it is important for consumers to remember that odor-ridding solutions are often more convenient and less expensive than they might think.
