What experience do you have with art? If you love art you probably love to go to art museums and shows and even have a favorite artist or style. If you create art work yourself, you have experience with different art supplies. If this is the case, you know art supplies are far from inexpensive.

When you head out to your local arts and craft store and cruise the aisle full of paint tubes, paintbrushes, canvas boards, and other art supplies, you notice a trend. Just about every thing has a high price tag. You might even be shocked to see a $20 paintbrush that doesn’t look any more special than your toothbrush. Why is it so expensive?

On the other hand, there are some art supplies that aren’t nearly as expensive as the others. You could find a small set of paints in a pack or a large pack of different kinds of paintbrushes that are cheaper than some single tubes of paint or single paintbrushes. The reason why they are cheaper is because they are made of less quality.

Whether you choose the expensive high quality or the cheap bundles all depends on what you’re doing and what you want to accomplish. Are you an advanced artist that knows what to do or have you never touched a paintbrush in your life and are just looking to give it a try?

Any beginner artist and you are just giving it a try, you are better off with going with a few of the cheaper supplies in the beginning. When you are new and you don’t know if you really want to get into art, you don’t want to invest in too much to begin with. If you end up hating it, you don’t want to have wasted all that money. If you do turn out to love it, the next time you need to get supplies, you can get better quality.

You also need to know the difference between cheap lower quality supplies and just plain crap. For example, never use plastic brushes. These are the kind that you get with kid art projects that have five fat plastic black bristles. These will not stand up to anything and will really affect the quality of your work.

Hopefully once you get into art and get going, you will fall in love with it. If this happens to you, when you run out you can go for the higher quality supplies. If you are looking for inexpensive supplies or higher quality supplies, you can get them both much cheaper than you would at your local art supply stores.
